Job Title: Controls Engineer

Position Summary: Concept, detail, checkout and maintain electrical schematics and software designs for Freund-Vector's product lines. Provide electrical and software design support, as required, for all functions within the company. Travel as necessary to complete startup and/or warranty projects that support the sale of Freund-Vector's product lines.

Required Education: High School graduate or equivalent and 4-year B.S. degree in Engineering (Electrical/Computer desired) OR a 2-year Associates Degree in electronic or computer technology field with at least 3 years direct work experience in programming and using PLC's for process type applications plus satisfactory performance reviews and project execution will be considered in lieu of the 4-year Electrical Engineering degree requirement.

Required Experience: Programming experience using high-level programming languages (such as C#) is preferred. Familiarity with the principles of designing control panels for industrial automation is preferred.

Relevant Skills: Must have excellent ability to conceptualize abstract ideas; Will be called upon to communicate with customers on technical issues. Good organizational skills; Ability to handle stress produced by time pressure, customer demands, etc.; Must be detail oriented.

Physical Requirements: Agility and flexibility may be required during in-plant debugging activity; Must be able to climb and descend stairs several times daily.

Travel: Up to 20%

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Essential Tasks:

 

  1. Concept, detail, and update electrical schematics and software designs as required for sold orders and/or R&D projects.
  1. Ensure that all drawings and bills of material are complete and accurate before release to Manufacturing.
  2. Provide direction and work instructions to Controls Draftsperson(s).
  3. Execute ECO’s and determine status of scrap or rework.
  4. Communicate with Project Management, the Controls Engineering Group Manager, and other design disciplines as required to complete assigned tasks for sold order projects.
  5. Communicate with Purchasing Department and part vendors to determine cost and availability of needed parts.
  6. Communicate and provide work direction to assembly personnel as necessary to efficiently complete assembly and interconnect of the equipment.
  7. Support Service Department, as required, to resolve problems with equipment in the field
  8. Participate in factory acceptance testing and startup activities associated with sold orders. Travel, up to 20%, will be required to perform this task.
  9. Develop and write detailed design specifications that will be used as a roadmap to develop the software required for Freund-Vector’s products.
  10. Develop programming skills to program system PLC’s and Human Machine Interfaces for Freund-Vector’s products.

 

Discretionary Tasks:

 

  1. Assist in preparation of equipment and system descriptions to be used in the quote process.
  2. Interface with the Sales, Purchasing, Assembly, and Service departments, and the customer as needed.
  3. Verify equipment manuals and spare parts list for accuracy and completeness.
  4. Coordinate electrical design activities with Mechanical and Project engineering personnel as necessary.
